Chocolate Heaven!
Quality chocolates and excellent selection! They have chocolates from all over the world. They also sell local brands like lux. Vegan and gluten free are also available.
The prices of international chocolates are pretty high. The Venchi chocolates were almost double of what I paid in NYC
Also they do have some chocolates on sale. Don't forget to check the expiry/best used by dates.
Heads up- you need to wear a mask to shop here.
The staff is super knowledgeable and helpful.
Parking- Its always a challenge to find parking in the area.
If you're a chocolate lover, this is the place to be! I recommend.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 6, 2022
So I totally respect their decision to require masks even now in July 2022. I'm vaxxed, I'm boosted. My issue is that I was there purely to get a hot chocolate and a chocolate gelato. However, they said they no longer serve them due to covid. However, they're there in the store, and they even sell pints of gelato and packages of hot chocolate. What would be the difference between scooping a scoop of gelato, putting it in a cup and handing it to me and handing me a pint of pre-scooped gelato? I just don't understand the logic of it. They can hand me a bag of cocoa mix but they can't make a hot chocolate? I specifically asked why and they said "oh we don't make them one by one to be extra safe due to covid." I just don't understand it.
Thus, I couldn't get my hot chocolate or my gelato, so I'm giving 3 stars because she was friendly and they had very tasty chocolate bars.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3230528118912Dec 7, 2021
One of the best shops we popped into while visiting the Strip District - chocolate, chocolate, everywhere, and from everywhere! From imported chocolates to novelty character chocolates to locally-made chocolates, they really do have an insane selection. I was most drawn to their local options and their more unique flavors with dark chocolate - Himalayan pink sea salt with pistachio, citrus and vanilla, fig and honey. It's an absolutely massive assortment. Great spot to grab some gifts, since so many of the options here are already sealed and decoratively packaged.
Up at the register, they also carry their own name brand line of chocolate-dipped goodies, truffles, and chocolates - check this area for sale prices or lower-priced gift options. They also have an ice cream counter that is currently out of service, but signage indicates that they do have a hot chocolate bar open for the season? I didn't see anyone getting anything from it when I visited, and it seemed like staff were eating their lunches there instead.
NOTE: According to other reviews, they don't allow photos to be taken in the store? I was caught up in exploring and didn't take any shots but if so, find it very bizarre.Helpful 17Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 0 - Oct 23, 2020Updated review
When it comes to buying premium chocolates look no further than Mon Aimee chocolat. They carry a wide assortment of both domestic and international candies for sale and even have an area where you can have your own box made up.
In the pre Co-Vid days they were selling Millie's ice cream to patrons but that is currently on hold for the time being. The carry some of the familiar brands you will find elsewhere but when it comes to the finest domestic or let alone international they have a great variety selection.
During my recent visit I got help with my purchases from the owner Aimee herself. Although I've always been a fan of Belgium chocolates she advised me to consider other countries such as Brazil and now the Philippines. Whether you like white chocolate, milk, or dark, they carry it all. I ended up purchasing three candy bars from Theo and Philo, a Philippine provider who graduated from Carnegie Mellon and then set up his own shop. I was here for a Yelp Elite event that enabled me to buy an assortment of their candies at a discounted price. Inside that assortment was a Theo and Philo calamasi bar. It was so good I knew I had to buy more. My own assortment included their choco mango with coconut, dark chocolate with ginger and mint, and dark chocolate with green mango and salt. I'm sure I'll be pleased with these selections.
At her suggestion I also purchased a Brazilian chocolate bar called Baru Nut from Mission chocolate. The bar comes completely wrapped in pretty packaging for gift giving. It's a bit on the pricey side but I'm sure it will be worth it. Finally to satisfy my Belgium whim I ended up purchasing a dark chocolate with roasted almond bar from Dolfin one of the top Belgium chocolatiers.
I got to sample a couple of other items in my assortment that included a hot cocoa caramel, and a mini venchi dark bar. She carries chocolate covered pretzels and even gingerbread candy boxes. The latter looked tempting but will save that for a future visit. They have set up in the back a holiday assortment and if you need anything from there you need to ask since the back has been sectioned off for employees only.
Vegan and gluten-free candy is also available. Check out their offerings from Hawaii!
You can also shop online with mail delivery or curbside pickup. They do require you to sanitize your hands upon entering and masks are a must. Photography is prohibited in the store and you are asked to respect that.
The selection is endless but there's something for everyone here. They now carry the outstanding line of A 519 chocolates which I have had before and are delicious from the first bite.
Mon Aimee Chocolat is indeed one of the best hidden candy gems in the city and is worth a visit if you are in the Strip District of Pittsburgh. Located on Penn at 21st St, metered street parking is available.Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0Dec 20, 2015Previous reviewMon Aimee Chocolat carries a wide variety of different candies. Some are imported from different countries. A chocolate bar can range anywhere from a couple of dollars to almost $20.00 depending upon where it is from. The sell other things there such as cookies but candy is their specialty.
They even have a counter where you can have a box made up from looking through a glass shelf.
They have relativity cheap candy too if you just want some last minute stocking stuffers. I asked a clerk for advice on what to get for my daughter who loves milk chocolate. I ended up getting her some white chocolate covered pretzels and a milk chocolate bar from Columbia. I'm sure she will like it. Since I was stuffed from lunch I decided not to indulge any further for now but I know this is one place I will most certainly return to when the occasion warrants it. - Ulyana K.Pittsburgh, PA134081281Mar 2, 2022
Quality chocolate and an excellent selection. Mon Aimee has chocolate from virtually anywhere in the world. You'll find some from Europe (France, Germany, etc), South America, Africa, and even some local brands like A519 and Lux Chocolate. They also make their own chocolates and truffles.
Parking can be a bit of a struggle. There's a space near the macaroni factory, though. I tried their coconut toffee macadamia nut truffles, 5 pieces of A519 assorted bonbons, and a Ritter Sport milk chocolate bar with raisin and hazelnuts. The Ritter bar (a German brand) reminds me of the Aldi milk, raisin, and nut bar, but in a good way. Creamy chocolate and plenty of raisins.
The bonbons were pretty standard, but what truly made them stand out was not the taste: it was their beauty. The design is truly excellent! The craftsmanship is evident. Their own products are great, too. It was chewy and moderately sweet. The Lux almond, macadamia nut, and coconut bar is also very nutty. It's not quite chocolatey and rich for me, though. Only element of the store that was a large drawback was the price: it's not cheap. But, it's great chocolate for gifting (or indulging).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rachel C.Pittsburgh, PA329113622720Oct 20, 2020Updated review
I have been obsessed with this place for YEARS! This review is long overdue. Unlike Grandpa Joe's down the street, this store focuses more on gourmet chocolate and candy, as well as a wide variety of candies from around the world. It's truly such a treat to wander around and the store is so packed, you're definitely going to need multiple visits :)
I also love that they carry lots of local chocolates. My fave is A519 Chocolate, which is a local woman run business and truffle maker who makes this gorgeous truffles that look like works of art. They're beautiful and they're usually always by the counter convenient for you to grab!
They also carry ice cream (Millie's I believe), a decadent sipping chocolate in the winter and a few select pieces of individual chocolate non-wrapped you can buy. One of those chocolates is sponge candy, which is a Buffalo delicacy. I grew up in Erie and it was THEE thing to buy at all the chocolate stores. I can only describe it as being melt in your mouth amazing. Trust me, get it!
There's also treats for kids too. I actually saw those Bamboozled Jelly Belly kits... They're the gross tasting Jelly Belly gag gifts. Plus of course cute shapes like cars, animals, etc. This is a GREAT store for stocking stuffers or to buy a gift for someone. They also have some wrapped chocolates that are Pittsburgh themed.
They have a gourmet selection of chocolates from all over the world too. INcluding non-chocolate candy from all the over in Japan and various other countries. I had a friend who lived abroad for a while who always swore by the Cadbury bars at Mon Aimee because they were legit from London and not from America and tasted different. So if you lived abroad or have relatives who grew up in a different country, they may carry a favorite candy of theirs!
I just love this store. It's a small shop packed with candy, so if you're lucky enough to live here or are visiting, try and go on a weekday when it's less busy. And leave time to browse for so many delicious treasures!Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0Feb 7, 2011Previous reviewLet's be honest, who doesn't love chocolate? Who doesn't love a WHOLE store devoted to chocolate?! We're not talking about some generic Hershey store. This place is the real deal!
In the Strip District you've got to really stand out to pull people inside. Basically, if it's not Steeler related, good luck! I wandered in here on a lunch break from work and as soon as I entered I knew I wouldn't regret it! The unique thing about this store is it specializes in chocolates and other candies from all over the world.
I had a friend tell me the Cadbury bars made over in the UK were WAY better than the ones made in the states. I had planned a trip to London and she told me I HAD to make it a priority to buy a bar there. I had forgotten about it until a Cadbury bar called out to me from the counter in a market over there. She was NOT kidding! It tasted amazing! Not like that waxy tasting ickiness you get from bad chocolate. It was rich and creamy and amazing. I could go on and on.
But BACK to Mon Aimee Chocolat and the great ole' US of A. Sitting in a display at the store was a Cadbury bar. It was almost radiating light at this point! I confirmed with the person working there that it was, in fact, a Cadbury bar straight off the boat, airplane, cruise ship, etc. from the UK! I was so excited I just had to buy it! Even though I'm an only child I can be ok with sharing sometimes. Especially if it's an amazing food! Since this chocolate was so good I just had to share with my coworkers. They all thought it was just as life changing as I had described it.
Of course, since I had discovered this, one of my coworkers had been over to Holland and tried a type of candy that became one of her favorites. Of course we had to go back to Mon Aimee to see if they carried it and sure enough, it was there! It's such a treat to have this specialty store here in the burgh! So don't wait...walk, jog or run there...just think, that 'll burn off those calories to indulge it more!! - Amanda D.Boise, ID13514Nov 26, 2022
Unique shop in the Strip District. They do still require you to wear a mask, but will give you one if you don't have one. They have chocolates from places all over the world with fun and different flavors. If you like trying different kinds of chocolate than this is the place for you. I had a blast admiring all the different packaging trying to figure out where each one was from. I wish I knew how to pick a good chocolate bar. Prices can vary and get pricey for chocolate but worth it for the expereince!

A treasure in the gem that is the strip district. If you need specialty chocolate- this is the place to go. Most recently I came here looking for some specialty chocolate to send with a gift. I found some very unique and fancy chocolate that was very affordable and would surely wow the recipient. They have it all here- def. worth checking out when in the strip!
P.S. In terms of COVID-19 safety precautions- I was very pleased when visiting here during the week. They had a limit on customers in the store and asked every customer to use hand sanitizer before touching anything. I felt very safe here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kristin D.Zelienople, PA125141422Nov 1, 2020
I hadn't been to this amazing shop in quite some time. I'm so glad I had an opportunity to go, browse and pick out some delicious chocolate for myself and also buy some as a gift. The ladies that work here are very nice, helpful and lovely.
They have such an amazing and large selection of chocolates from all over the world! I think it's best to go on a weekday when there are less people, and really go through the entire shop and look at all they have to offer. Ask questions! The ladies are very helpful and assisted me in finding a new favorite chocolate bar. The variety pack they put together for the Yelp Elite group is so awesome with a great variety. I've only started tasting and so far, the three types of chocolate covered pretzels are delicious! I can't wait to go back before Christmas and check out their selections!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Michael C.Pittsburgh, PA72145165Nov 19, 2020
This hidden gem of a chocolate vault is the place for a chocolate lover to dive into the eclectic and unique varieties of chocolate assortments. Home of world-class chocolates from across the globe, Mon Aimee Chocolat offers so of the candy that you will be literally lost in the mounds of chocolate lest you have someone yank you out of this Charlie Bucket dreamhouse or your parking meter expires (trust me, the parking fine would be better spent on treating your taste buds).
The shop has much of the bread and butter chocolates: chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-anythings. However, where this place shines are really 1) the award-winning chocolates 2) the owner's knowledge of chocolates and 3) unique varieties. Ever heard of guava in chocolate? Well, that's pretty basic here - try Umbu, Cupuacu, or some other fruit-blend from the deepest regions of South America.
Of course, this place would do well for chocolates as gifts, and most certainly adds flair to an otherwise cliche gift, because of these unique and award-winning chocolates. Just make sure these recipients understand the specialty of your chocolate gift, or perhaps let them know how much of a hole you are creating in your wallet.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
